My Turtles ( Terrapins )

These are my turtles, the larger one is a girl and as you can see needs her shell scrubbed as moss grows on their backs, and the smaller one is a boy. This was taken last year after coming out of hibernation. They are in hibernation at this time of the year.

Cobdogla Station. A bit of history

Cobdogla Station, in South Australia. The first major settlement in the Riverland. Settled by John Chambers in 1842, Cobdogla Station eventually covered the area from Overland Corner to Spring Cart Gully, which is near Renmark, and some sections over the border to Rufus River. They controlled some 200 miles of river frontage. The station specialised in rearing quality horses, these being used for coaching and stock work.

John McDouall Stuart was retained by Chambers to explore for new grazing lands. When Stuart decided to make his exploration to the northern gulf, he went to Chambers for horses. Stuart took 71 horses, many from Cobdogla, and these were the ones he came to rely upon when the non Cobdogla horses failed. I understand that Stuart named Chambers Pillar after John Chambers.

This information was kindly supplied by DENIS WASLEY.

At Cobdogla you can visit the Cobdogla Irrigation Museum, which is home to the HUMPHREY PUMP. The Humphrey Pump is the largest operational liquid piston engine water pump in the entire world.

Cobdogla, enjoy the river.

Every-one has a great time at Cobdogla caravan park.

Cobdogla caravan park

This would have to be the most beautiful caravan park I have visited. Large areas for camping or berthing your caravan, with lots of trees providing shade. You can also rent out cabins.

Swimming pool, Cobdogla

The swimming pool is a great way to cool off while at the Cobdogla caravan park.

Cart ride, Cobdogla

In the mornings kids enjoy a cart ride at the caravan park, pulled by a tractor, and on alternate mornings the cart is pulled by a donkey.

Naracoorte, Bat Cave

Naracoorte caves also has the largest of 2 known breeding sites for the Southern Bentwing bat.You can take a twilight tour and visit the cave entrance and see the bats come out for the evening. You can also go to a visitor centre and view the bats in the cave via infrared cameras installed in the cave.It is very interesting to see the baby bats all huddled together on the cave ceiling, they are only as big as a jelly bean when they are born

Naracoorte Caves, South Australia

I know these are not the greatest of pictures, if you are ever in the area I suggest you visit Naracoorte, there are a lot of things to see and do, and the caves are spectacular. Fossils of Australian Mega-Fauna have been discovered here and there is a great display of these.
